BROADCAST BOOT CAMP PATRICIA ROBINSON-MITCHELL SCHOLARSHIP

Broadcast Boot Camp is an interactive student enrichment program designed to introduce young people to the fundamentals of radio show and podcast production.
The program empowers youth to effectively communicate their causes, needs, and experiences while developing essential social, emotional, and practical skills.
As a social impact initiative, Broadcast Boot Camp focuses on keeping young people engaged and positively involved, helping to boost self-esteem, confidence, and personal growth while providing valuable skills and future opportunities.
Participants strengthen key life skills such as verbal communication, storytelling, and self-expression.

Broadcast Boot Camp was developed by Mr. Brian D. Scott Sr, a broadcast professional with more than 30 years of industry experience.
In addition to leading Broadcast Boot Camp, Mr. Scott works as a director at WLNS/WLAJ Channel 6/53 in Lansing, Michigan, and consults clients on podcast development.
His career spans roles include radio mix jockey in Chicago Illinois, remote broadcast engineer for the Detroit Pistons Radio Network, on-air personality in Toledo Ohio, syndicated sports show host and producer, and traffic producer/reporter for iHeartMedia in Detroit.
He also works occasionally as a mobile DJ throughout the Midwest.
Mr. Scott is a graduate of the Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts and later enrolled in the Broadcast Media Arts Program at Washtenaw Community College to further refine and update his broadcasting skills in 2021 during the pandemic.
Brian D. Scott, Sr’s inspiration and ongoing support came from his late mother,
Mrs. Patricia Robinson-Mitchell. A native of West Virginia, she overcame significant challenges to graduate from the School of Education at Eastern Michigan University and dedicated her life to educating young minds.
Mrs. Robinson-Mitchell taught in the Willow Run School District for decades and remained deeply committed to education and youth development.
She was an active member of Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where she continued working with children through Vacation Bible School and Sunday School even after her retirement from the Willow Run School District in 2012.
Patricia Robinson-Mitchell passed away from heart disease on July 27, 2025.
In her honor, Brian Scott committed to continuing the mission of Broadcast Boot Camp and established a scholarship in her name.
The Broadcast Boot Camp Patricia Robinson-Mitchell Scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in the Broadcast Media Arts Program at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
