Radio Free Detroit is a 24-hour, non-profit, educational, informative, non-commercial broadcasting entity and program provider for satellite radio, secondary HD Radio stations, on-line radio stations and community radio stations targeting both male and female high school students and adults 25-54.

Radio Free Detroit is perusing 501(c)(3) non profit organization status and is currently a registered non-profit corporation in the state of Michigan.

Started in 2004, Radio Free Detroit features a diverse mix of Deep House, Urban, Soul, House, Disco, Jazz, R&B, Soul, Funk, Motown, and independent radio shows by the community.

Radio Free Detroit currently operates as a legal non-licensed FCC PART 15 broadcast radio station with future plans of obtaining a Low Power FM radio station license under the Local Community Radio Act and a shortwave broadcast radio station license or AM station license when the FCC opens the application-filing window.

The purpose of Radio Free Detroit is to promote the sale of music from local and national artist and give a worldwide audience a non-corporate broadcast outlet of diverse programming from the community and organizations that is easily accessible by listeners using traditional and alternative broadcasting methods.

Radio Free Detroit's goal is to provide community service organizations and individuals broadcasting opportunities under the Local Community Radio Acts where broadcasting resources are limited or not readily available.

Following the Local Community Radio Act bill, Radio Free Detroit has a community service component by developing programs with various organizations to introduce at-risk, disadvantage and under privileged students with limited resources in broadcasting as a possible career choice.  With numerous schools districts cutting broadcast programs from their curriculum and the high costs of broadcasting schools, Radio Free Detroit will provide basic hands on training.  This is achieved by taking fieldtrips to broadcast facilities, hosting seminars, conducting training classes, booking guest speakers and the Broadcast Boot Camp program.  These students are often denied access to literacy education.

Radio Free Detroit helps combat the literacy issue through the reading and writing of public service and underwriting announcements.

Students are able to listen to recordings of themselves to evaluate their growth and progress.

Radio Free Detroit provides live programming for non-commercial low power AM and FM radio stations, school and college radio stations, micro-broadcasters, internet radio stations, shortwave radio stations, Cable channels, satellite radio channels and primary or secondary HD Radio channels.
